A former Team USA gymnastics doctor was arrested Monday, accused in the sexual assault of a child.
Dr. Larry Nassar is being charged with three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct of a girl under 13.
His defense attorney admits she's been kept in the dark, and doesn't know much about the alleged victim or details of the accusation.
Shannon Smith also tells Action News she thought she had a deal with police and prosecutors, that if charges ever came down, Nassar would turn himself in. Smith says 43 people have been interviewed, making accusations, between the ages of eleven and 18.
Nassar, who denies all allegations, treated athletes at his Holt, Michigan home, at the gym and on the road. We're also told he showed police video examples of how he conducted therapy visits and appointments.
An unidentified woman has also filed a lawsuit against the 53-year old, claiming he fondled her during therapy.
He's only described as a medal winning gymnast from the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Nassar was fired from his staff job at Michigan State University. We reached out to the school, but never heard back.
He was formerly arraigned Tuesday morning, and Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is also holding a news conference Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
