CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — After her dream wedding was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the family and friends of a Macomb County couple decided to celebrate anyway.
More than 40 well-wishers, holding signs and honking, drove past Ashley Lenard’s Clinton Township home April, 25, the day she was supposed to marry her fiancé Jeff Gonsler.
Just before the surprise parade, someone left a box for Ashley with a note that said put on a white dress, wear this veil and come outside.
“Ashley was stunned by such a loving tribute to her,” her Mother Patti Lenard wrote to WXYZ-TV.
A few close friends and family stayed for a “social distance” barbecue. Ashley gave Jeff his wedding gift, a new BBQ, which he used to grill up the food.
The couple will forever celebrate their “un-wedding” day and are determined to get married in 2020.
