MOUNT CLEMENTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — When Macomb County Sheriff's deputies responded to a house fire in Mount Clemens they sprang into action to make sure everyone was out of the home.

The fire started in the upper duplex on January 26 and all of the residents were safely evacuated. No one was home in the lower duplex but deputies could hear that a dog was locked inside.

Deputies broke down the door and rescued the pet from the lower unit.

The dog was returned safely to the family.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire at the home.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Department is reminding homeowners to make sure their smoke detectors are in proper working order. They also encourage family members to have a safety evacuation plan in the event of a fire.
