The Michigan Humane Society says one of their kittens was stolen out of the Detroit Center for Animal Care on Thursday around 1:30 p.m.
MHS is now offering a $500 reward for the safe return of the 10-week-old kitten named Misty Gish.
A woman was caught on surveillance video shoving the young kitten in her purse before walking out of the shelter.
The woman, accompanied by a young girl, then appeared to get into a late 1990s Lexus sedan, according to MHS.
Misty Gish is white with gray markings. She has a microchip and has been reported missing.
“This is a deplorable act and we are hopeful that our compassionate community will help identify this perpetrator and ensure a safe return for Misty Gish,” said Debby MacDonald, MHS Chief Cruelty Investigator in a press release. “It’s even more disheartening that a young girl was used to help in this crime, and that the kitten was shoved into a purse on a 90-degree day.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 313-872-3401.
