(WXYZ) — The National Weather Service's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration division measures flood gauges locally using an interactive map.

Following Wednesday's heavy rain, which caused major flooding in metro Detroit, the flood gauge map shows how quickly water levels rose by city and the projected time the water will recede.

The maps are color coded based on the severity of flooding, with green being the least amount of flooding and purple meaning major flooding in the area. The map also shows projected flooding in the days to come.

Some cities in metro Detroit, like the Detroit Rouge River area and Clinton Township, received over 10 feet of flooding.
