Vigil held for teen killed by electrocution on Detroit's west side

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Around 50 family members and friends of 15-year-old Manuel Pelayo Jr. gathered near 52nd and Conrad in Detroit Saturday night.

Mourners lit candles and released balloons in honor of the late teenager.

Pelayo was hired to clean and secure a warehouse on Detroit's west side when he came across a live DTE wire. He was killed by electrocution.

Fire investigators were called to the warehouse around 6 p.m. on Friday, located in the 14000 block of Woodrow Wilson, near Oakman Blvd. and the Lodge Freeway.

The funeral has been arranged for Saturday, May 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kernan Funeral Home on 1020 Fort Street in Lincoln Park.
