The visitation for a fallen Detroit police sergeant who was shot in the line of duty begins today.
Sgt. Kenneth Steil was shot last Monday when he was running after a suspect wanted in connection with several carjackings and shooting his parents.
Sgt. Steil was shot with a sawed-off shotgun and died Saturday from complications from his injuries.
The suspect who shot him is facing an upgraded charge of first degree murder.
The 46-year-old sergeant leaves behind a wife and two little boys.
Today, the visitation for Sgt. Steil will be held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Wujek-Calcaterra and Sons Funeral Home on Schoenherr Road in Sterling Heights. On Thursday, a second visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the same location.
The funeral will be held on Friday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Overlake Street in St. Clair Shores.
