Warren Mayor Jim Fouts orders more use-of-force training for Warren police officers

Posted

Warren police will be getting new use-of-force training.

Mayor Jim Fouts has directed Police Commissioner Jere Green to review and update the department's policies.

Fouts says the move comes in light of recent police incidents involving use-of-force in different areas of the country.

“I want to make it abundantly clear that our police have never been accused of excessive use-of-force," Fouts said in a press release.  "I am proud that our police officers conduct themselves with the highest degree of professionalism."

The new training will focus on cultural diversity, mental and physical health, as well as new de-escalation techniques.

The training will also include meetings between the Police Department and various community groups.
