ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Mourners gathered Wednesday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Allen Park to honor the life of Rev. Fr. Stephen Joseph Rooney, 66, who died when the boat he was on capsized in the Detroit River more than a week ago.
Rooney's body, which was missing for days, was recovered on Aug. 20 in Lake Erie by a fishing charter of Stony Point and north of Monroe Harbor in Frenchtown Township by fishermen.
Another victim of the tragedy was 52-year-old Robert Chiles, whose body was recovered shortly before Fr. Rooney's.
