(WXYZ) — A brief police pursuit occurred Monday afternoon in Detroit following a domestic incident where investigators say a father allegedly kidnapped his 3-month-old child following an argument with the infant's mother.
The call came into police around 11:40 a.m. on a report of a kidnapping in the 20500 block of James Couzens. The child's 23-year-old mother told police that the child's father, a 26-year-old man, had taken the child and allegedly demanded money for the return of the baby.
Police say that during the pursuit the suspect disregarded several stop signs and traffic control devices. At one point the pursuit was called off by police for safety reasons and to prevent possible injury to the infant, police said.
At one point, after the pursuit was called off, the suspect stopped the car as it was traveling down Seven Mile Road and the mother was able to retrieve the infant.
The father then continued to flee eastbound on West Seven Mile Road.
The mother refused medical treatment for the child. Police are asking if you have information on this investigation to please call the Detroit Police Department’s 12th Precinct at 313-596-1240 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
