The Wayne County truck driver who pleaded guilty in a crash that killed a road worker in March 2017 was sentenced to 18 months to 15 years in jail.
Bobby Lee Collins was part of the road crew when his truck crashed into two men filing potholes. One man was killed, another seriously injured.
When Collins first entered the courtroom, his attorney asked to postpone the sentencing because of medical issues he was dealing with. His attorney said that this was a horrible accident and that Collins has been suffering.
The prosecutor said Collins had a responsibility to protect his coworkers on that day and his actions forever changed two families.
During a victim impact statement, Collins' wife had a medical emergency and crews on scene were heard saying it was a cardiac issue. Sentencing was put on hold for about an hour while they worked with the woman.
