(WXYZ) — Rashida Tlaib is speaking out about the president's feud with Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
Tlaib talked about her rise in politics Wednesday night during an event at the University of Detroit Mercy Law School.
Afterwards, 7 Action News asked Tlaib about President Trump's comments about Omar.
"We have people that are continuing to target us, to use fear mongering, hate rhetoric to divert from real issues around healthcare, around immigration reform that need to be addressed," she said.
The president was accused of igniting security concerns for Omar by tweeting about some of her recent comments about 9-11 with images of the attack.
Tlaib says Omar's words were taken out of context.
During a visit to Omar's home state Monday, the president called her "ungrateful."
Omar says the controversy has led to death threats against her.
