Expect delays and closures on westbound I-696 starting May 17.
The Michigan Department of Transportation reports that nine miles of I-696 will be patched in connection to the I-275 construction project. The construction is expected to affect traffic for the next two weeks.
Starting May 17, two lanes of westbound I-696 will be closed between Middlebelt Road and I-275. A third lane will close at 11 p.m. which will leave only one lane open until all lanes reopen at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
Beginning May 20 at 9 p.m., I-696 will shut down completely between Lahser Road and Middlebelt. It will reopen on May 23 at 5 a.m.
You can also expect additional night and weekend freeway closures related to the I-275 project in the coming days.
