(WXYZ) — UPDATE 9:46PM: The freeway has reopened at westbound I-96 near Kensington Road after multi-vehicle pileup.

At least 20 to 30 vehicles have been involved in crashes on westbound I-96 near Kensington Road, according to a tweet from MDOT and Michigan State Police.

The injuries are minor at this time, police say. MSP Brighton Post is currently on the scene.

Authorities say low visibility, road conditions and speed may be what caused of the accidents.

The area impacted is between Kensington and Pleasant Valley, which will remain closed until further notice.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area. There is currently a multi-mile back up as crews tend to the crashes.

MDOT suggests drivers exit at westbound I-96 to Grand River, or use westbound M-14 to northbound 23.
