Every Friday we check out the people and places in metro Detroit for 7 In Your Neighborhood and this week, we’re heading to the eastside of Detroit.

WXYZ-TV Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth will be broadcasting live from the Fall Beer Fest at the Eastern Market starting at 5 p.m.

The Michigan Brewer’s Guild Detroit Fall Beer Festival at Eastern Market is one of the biggest beer festivals in SE Michigan with more than 850 craft beers and 130 Michigan breweries.

The two-day festival begins on Friday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the gate or for a discount in advance. Click here for ticket info.

While we’re exploring a fun event in your neighborhood, we always wander off the beaten path and highlight the people and places in the area.

This week, Photojournalist John Ciolino stopped by Louisiana Creole Gumbo on Gratiot Avenue, near the Eastern Market, for a healthy fix of the restaurant’s famous red beans and rice.

That segment airs at 6 p.m. on WXYZ-TV

And while we were in the area, we caught up with Monique Marks, a Detroit resident and CEO of the Franklin Wright Settlement, a community non-profit that has been helping Detroit families in need since the 1800s.
