The White House is painting a Republican win in Georgia's special House election Tuesday as a personal victory for President Donald Trump.

White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters tells reporters aboard Air Force One that Karen Handel's win serves as proof that "the American people are resonating with the president's agenda" and want to see his agenda enacted.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue is echoing that message. He says the vote shows people want Congress to move forward with Trump's plans.

The president was on his way to Iowa, where he'll talk about agricultural innovation at Kirkwood Community College and hold a campaign-style rally.

The Georgia race was seen by many as an early referendum on Trump.
