DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 55-year-old woman was killed Monday when she was hit by a truck while changing a tire with her husband on eastbound I-94 in Detroit.

The crash happened around 11:35 a.m.

Police say the husband and wife were on the right shoulder of eastbound I-94 near Barrett Avenue changing their car's flat tire. That's when the driver of a pickup truck traveling on the freeway tried avoiding a rear-end crash and couldn't stop.

The driver of the truck swerved and drove up the right embankment and hit the couple changing their tire. The couple was taken to a local hospital where the woman died from her injuries. The husband was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver's blood was tested and results are pending. The pickup truck was also impounded, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

A GoFundMe has been created for the couple involved here.
