SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — An angry customer walked into a convenience store at the Mobil gas station in Southfield on Nine Mile and knocked down display racks of newspapers, food and candy.

The store said the clerk did the right thing to get away from the man. The store is still cleaning up from the mess.

In surveillance video, the man is seen knocking over a newspaper display, then a candy rack leaving a pretty big mess to cleanup. He then pushed racks with bags of chips on it.

This happened Thursday morning around 6:30.

We’re told the store had only been opened for a half hour when the man walked in trying to sell his cell phone.

The store employee asked the man to leave and then ran behind the bullet proof glass, calling police immediately. The man eventually left after causing a scene.

The store employees did not want to talk but think there is a chance this man has mental health issues, which is why they asked us to blur his face in the video.

Because of that thought, the store owner may ask to drop charges if he is arrested.

Many customers we spoke with say they are happy the clerk was not hurt. Kaylah Thaxton is a frequent customer.

She said, “They are putting their own safety in danger and they have to deal with the aftermath of what the person just did.”
