(WXYZ) — Another winter storm arrives Wednesday morning and will bring a wintry mix of snow, ice and sleet. This storm will not have a huge impact on the metro area compared to the other storms this month - but it'll slow you down.
Timing:
Look for the snow to get started closer to 6AM for areas near the Michigan / Ohio state line. Therefore, counties such as Lenawee, Monroe will see snow fall early enough to impact the rush hour commute. Next in line will be Washtenaw and Wayne counties, meaning the snow will be on the "heels of rush hour" in these areas arriving closer to lunchtime from 10am - 12pm. This is also the same time snow will be making a quick transition to a wintry mix including ice.
The good news with this storm is that towards Wednesday evening temps will climb above freezing changing the storm to all rain.
Snow and Ice Totals:
Snow fall is not expected to be the major issue with this storm. In fact, only 1" - 2" will be possible for most areas as the system pushes into Metro Detroit. The bigger concern is the ice, since it doesn't take much to cause travel issues on the roads and sidewalks. Once the mixture of ice, sleet and rain hits the snow it'll turn slushy fairly quickly.
