Legendary radio journalist and WJR veteran Rod Hansen has passed away,according to WJR.
WJR reports that Hansen's work in radio won him two Peabody Awards over his career.
According to the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame, Hansen learned the business at stations in Ohio before starting as an evening anchor at WJR in 1967.
After his longtime run in radio, Hansen worked as the press officer for the Federal Court in Detroit.
“It is often said in this building that, if you want to know what is going on, ask Rod Hansen, as he is on top of all the issues,” U.S. District Judge Bernard A. Friedman on the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame website.
On top of the Peabody Awards, Hansen earned honors from Investigative Reporters and Editors, the American Bar Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Michigan Press Association, according to the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame.
