Woman dead, man in critical condition after Oak Park shooting; suspect in custody

OAK PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 74-year-old woman is dead and a 55-year-old man is in critical condition following a shooting in the city of Oak Park Friday. Police have taken a 22-year-old suspect into custody.

The fatal shooting happened Friday, Dec. 27 in the 21000 block of Westhampton in Oak Park. There was a report of a shooting at the location and when officers arrived, they found a 74-year-old woman dead from gunshot wounds. There was also a 55-year-old man in critical condition from gunshot wounds. Officers administered aid before transporting the man to Providence Hospital in Southfield.

The 22-year-old suspect reportedly notified Allen Park police that he had just shot two people in Oak Park. Allen Park officers where then able to take the suspect into custody and turn him over to Oak Park police.

A weapon was recovered from the scene.

Investigators have determined that what occurred was a domestic incident, now charges are pending review by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.
