A woman escaped a house fire in Highland Park early this morning.
The house is located in the 200 block of Connecticut near John R. and Woodland Street.
Fire crews say wind from storms rolling through the area made the fire a challenge to fight. Firefighters say they had to use a defensive method to fight the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby homes.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
We're learning that the woman's dog did die in the fire.
