Woman shot in face during accidental shooting at Madison Heights home

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Madison Heights police say a 20-year-old woman was hurt in an accidental shooting on Wednesday night.

Officers were called to Ascension St. John Hospital around 10:19 p.m. on Wednesday on a report of a shooting victim being brought in. We're told the 20-year-old woman was shot in the face but conscious when she arrived.

The victim told officers that she was shot at a home in the 26000 block o Wolverine in Madison Heights.

Officers responded to the home, and witnesses told police that a handgun was being improperly handled when it went off, hitting the woman in the face.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the victim is being treated at the hospital for her injuries. Her condition was not immediately given.
