Clinton Township Police say thanks to 7 Action News viewers they are closer to getting justice for a little dog nicknamed Elvira. She got the name after she was found in horrible condition on Halloween.

The dog had mats that covered her paws and eyes. They caused infection and ulcers. The pressure of the mats broke bones in her legs. She lost one foot before she was found, possibly due to neglect. She lost vision in one eye. Her stomach was filled with pebbles, indicating she was desperately hungry.

Workers at Advanced Animal Emergency in Clinton Township treated her.

Viewers who saw the little dog’s story responded. Donations poured in to the Macomb County Animal Control’s non-profit, giving it a chance to save her life without using tax dollars.

“It is people who are truly moved by the story who are paying for her care right now,” said Chief Jeff Randazzo, of the Macomb County Animal Control

Clinton Township Police say people didn’t just respond with donations. Tips poured in thanks to the news story. Investigators say no charges are filed yet, but they are optimistic they will get justice for Elvira.

Sadly, the damage is severe.

Macomb County Animal Control Chief Jeff Randazzo says while she is responding to treatment, it is possible she may not live long due to her injuries.

"The dog definitely deserves to live the rest of its life, no matter how long that may be, having a lot of loving tender care,” said Randazzo.
