(WXYZ) — Fewer than 10 percent of Americans are vegetarian or vegan, according to a Gallup poll from 2018. But the number is growing.

And now you’ll find food to support a plant-based diet on a growing number of store shelves and restaurant menus.

So we asked our 7 Action News viewers to weigh in on the best vegan and vegetarian-friendly restaurants in metro Detroit. It’s our Thursday’s Top 7.

Chances are you know someone who has adopted a plant-based lifestyle. Some for health reasons, others for religious conviction, environmental concern or animal welfare. No matter what the reason, vegan, veggie or carnivore, you want to eat well!

#7 Seva (Midtown & Ann Arbor)

Coming in at #7 is Seva. They have locations in Midtown Detroit and Ann Arbor. They cater to vegetarians and vegans! And have a full bar, juice bar and after-work Happy Hour.

#6 Chomp (Rochester Hills)

Coming in at #6 is Chomp in Rochester Hills. They’re new to the vegan scene but are making a splash. No surprise to long-time fans of the traditional menu. I ordered up the Impossible burger. And as a meat lover, I have to admit it was great! The Vegan Philly is a feast for all of the senses too!

#5 The Nosh Pit Detroit (Hammtramck)

The Nosh Pit Detroit grabs 5th in our online viewer poll. They have a restaurant and a food truck. Both get high marks! The hummus is a standout!

#4 Chili Mustard Onion - Midtown Detroit

Think a vegan coney island sounds like a contradiction? Try Chili Mustard Onion! Have all of the indulgences of a coney and all of the benefits of a plant-based meal. It’s 4th on our list.

#3 Street Beet (Pop Up)

The popular pop-up Street Beet comes in 3rd. Fans wait for hours for a table at their takeovers. Fake chicken and vegan spins on familiar sandwiches keep folks coming back for more.

#2 Inn Season Cafe - Royal Oak

Our runner-up is Inn Season Cafe in Royal Oak! They opened in 1981 and are still serving food that’s both hearty and satisfying. They’re also certified kosher by Kosher Michigan.

#1 GreenSpace Cafe - Ferndale

The number one spot in our online viewer poll is GreenSpace Cafe. It’s no wonder. They promise food that feels good. GreenSpace is owned by a cardiologist who champions food as medicine. It’s family-owned, open for brunch, lunch, and dinner with a drink list of conscious cocktails.
