The Detroit Tigers announced they have placed starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann on the 15-day disabled list. The move is retroactive to July 1.
According to the team, he was put on the DL because of a right neck strain.
In his absence, the team has called up right-handed pitcher Dustin Molleken from Triple A Toledo Mud Hens. It was also announced Anibal Sanchez will start Tuesday's game in Cleveland.
Zimmermann started off the year very well, winning eight of his first 10 starts, but since June 8, Zimmermann is 2-3.
In the month of June, Zimmermann had a 6.43 ERA, which is up from 4.88 in May and a league-best .55 ERA in April.
