LAKELAND, Fla. (WXYZ) -- Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander and fiancee Kate Upton hosted a dog adoption event before Saturday's spring training game.
The Grand Slam Adoption Event was a partnership between Verlander's Wins for Warriors Foundation and the Florida SPCA.
Verlander and Upton, as well as several Tigers players, played with dogs and took photos on the field before the game.
Saturday's event resulted in a total of 23 adoptions.
“Justin and I are so grateful to everyone who came out today to help raise money and awareness to find these loving dogs a forever home. I’m thrilled that we’re able to help SPCA Florida, an organization that gives shelter dogs a second chance at life, and K9s For Warriors, which honors veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country," Upton said in a release.
