Let the dealing begin.
The Tigers have traded J.D. Martinez to the Diamondbacks for three prospects.
Infielders Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara and Jose King are headed back to Detroit.
Martinez is due $5 million the rest of the season, and the Diamondbacks will pay the entire remaining salary, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.
"It breaks my heart. I love J.D. (Martinez)," Al Avila said on the team's broadcast on Tuesday night. "At the end of the day, it's the best thing for the organization."
Avila said he liked the haul the Tigers got in return, adding Lugo is a player he views as an everyday third baseman, and Alcantara could be an everyday player, too.
Martinez was pulled in the sixth inning of Monday night's Tigers game for what the team said was a back issue.
Before the organization released a reason for the defensive substitution, many people speculated Martinez had been traded.
Turns out we didn't have to wait that long to find out he had indeed been moved.
