The Tigers are beginning their salary trimming.
On Thursday night, they sent outfielder Cameron Maybin to the Angels.
The deal is a 'trade-and-sign,' according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Maybin is set to make $9 million, and MLB.com's Jason Beck first reported the talks were happening.
In return, Detroit is acquiring Double-A right-handed pitcher Victor Alcantara from the Angels.
Maybin is owed a $9 million salary next season, which the Angels will presumably pick up.
In 94 games last season, Maybin batted .315 with four home runs and 43 RBI.
