DETROIT (WXYZ) -- The Tigers announced Saturday that Wally Joyner will not return as the team's hitting coach next season.

In a release, the team stated that Joyner, who has been Detroit's hitting coach for the past three seasons, is "interested in pursuing other interests in the game of baseball."

Assistant hitting coach David Newhan's status will be determined after the Tigers hire a new hitting coach.

The team announced the following coaching staff members will return for 2017: bench coach Gene Lamont, pitching coach Rich Dubee, first base coach Omar Vizquel, third base coach Dave Clark, bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer, and defensive coordinator Matt Martin.
