DETROIT (WXYZ) -- The University of Detroit Mercy announced Saturday the creation of an award named after the late Reggie Hall.
The "Titan Reggie Spirit of Detroit Mercy Award" will be presented to a person who embodies Hall's "Titan spirit," which includes supporting teams at home and on the road through good times and bad, as Reggie did for many years. The presentation will occur at a men's basketball game during the season.
Hall, who passed away in December 2015 at age 58, was a Detroit Mercy alumnus and avid Titans supporter. A banner reading "Reggie's Corner" hangs in Calihan Hall near his customary seat, which also carries a commemorative sign.
“We all miss Reggie and we all know what he meant to this Athletic Department and our University,” Detroit Mercy athletic director Robert C. Vowels said in a release. “This award will be in his honor as we look to keep his spirit alive. He loved nothing more than Titan basketball and I know that his love and dedication to this University led others to embrace the same passion. We will now look to honor that passion every year at Calihan Hall.”
