Metro Series: Oakland women hold off UDM

DETROIT (WXYZ) -- Oakland held off a late charge from Detroit to take the team's first Metro Series meeting of the season, 79-73 Saturday at Calihan Hall.

The Golden Grizzlies (11-7, 3-4 Horizon League) held a 68-59 lead with 3:38 remaining in the second half before the Titans (8-10, 4-3 Horizon League) rattled off seven straight points to pull within two with 2:25 left. Oakland would not be able to close the gap any further.

Brianne Cohen and Haleigh Ristovski each scored a game-high 21 points to lead Detroit.

Elena Popkey scored a team-high 18 points for Oakland, while Sinclair Russell, Olivia Nash, and Taylor Jones added 16 apiece.

The Golden Grizzlies and Titans meet again February 27 at Oakland.
