ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) -- While the 2017 Michigan football team headed to Italy on Saturday, the 1997 team returned to Ann Arbor.
Players from the team that won the 1997 National Championship gathered for a weekend back on campus that featured a youth football clinic on Saturday morning and a team dinner at Crisler Center on Saturday night.
"Seeing the faces of the guys, I still see 'em in their jerseys, I still see their numbers" said forner offensive tackle Jon Jansen. "So many memories came flooding back, and my face hurts today because I smiled and laughed so much (Friday) night."
Former wide receiver Terrence Quinn echoed Jensen's nostalgic sentiments.
"Looked at the guys, and it was just like we were in the locker room, just with gray hair now," said Quinn. "It's a reminder of how special everything was, not just the wins, not just the championship, not just the rings, but the locker room."
Michigan beat Washington State 21-16 in the Rose Bowl to finish the 1997 season 12-0 and ranked first in the Associated Press poll. Nebraska finished the season ranked first in the coaches' poll.
