DETROIT (AP) -- Cole Murray scored a season-high 25 points, making 7 of 10 3-point shots before fouling out, and Northern Kentucky ended the first half of its inaugural Horizon League schedule Friday with a 91-83 defeat of Detroit on Spencer Haywood Night.
Murray, a 6-foot-6 junior, narrowly missed the career bests in points (26) and 3-pointers made and attempted (8 of 13) he set exactly one year ago in a loss at Stetson. Murray fouled out with two minutes left and Northern Kentucky (8-12, 4-5) protected its slim, 86-60 lead by making 5 of 6 free throws.
Detroit (9-11, 3-6) missed three 3-point shots in the last 16 seconds. Jaleel Hogan led with 17 points.
Drew McDonald scored 17 points with 10 rebounds while Tyler White and Jalen Billups scored 14 each for Northern Kentucky, which rallied after halftime.
Haywood, the former NBA great, was the sixth Titans player to have his jersey retired.
