While he is still at least a few weeks away from being back at full force, Red Wings forward Darren Helm skated with the team Thursday for the first time since suffering a dislocated shoulder on November 15.
Helm says he's been skating a bit every day and that he is noticing improvement. He says he was relieved that he didn't require surgery, as it would have been season-ending.
While he wasn't able to give a firm timetable for his return, he says he hopes to be back sometime early in the New Year.
Helm's injury happened just two days after his wife gave birth to their baby daughter. Helm says not being able to hold his daughter for the first couple weeks really "sucked".
