Michigan State Spartans men's basketball coach Tom Izzo announced on Monday guard Denzel Valentine will be out 2-3 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
According to Izzo, Valentine suffered the injury while attempting a layup Sunday night during practice.
The injury is a blow to the undefeated No. 1 Spartans who take on Oakland University on Tuesday at The Palace. They also open up Big Ten play on Dec. 29 with a game against Iowa, followed by games against Minnesota, Illinois and Penn State in the new year.
Valentine has a 45.6 field-goal percentage and a 40 percent three-point shooting percentage. He averages 18.5 points a game while averaging 30.6 minutes.
