After it was a massive hit for the Farewell to the Joe season, the Detroit Red Wings have announced the second annual Hockeytown 5K will take place on Sunday, Sept. 10.

The race will go past Joe Louis Arena and through downtown Detroit before ending outside of Little Caesars Arena on Woodward.

Registration is now open and begins at $50 with a part of the proceeds benefiting the Detroit Red Wings foundation.

Beginning on Woodward Ave. near Grand River, the route will take runners through downtown Detroit, past Joe Louis Arena, through parts of the District Detroit before finishing at the new home of the Detroit Red Wings.

Participants will receive a Hockeytown 5K t-shirt, runner's bib and one-of-a-kind gift card.

Fans can also register for a special package that include a ticket to a Red Wings preseason game for $90 or a ticket to both a Red Wings and Pistons preseason game for $99.

If you can't make it to the race, fans can still register for the virtual 5K, where they will still get a race bib, Hockeytown 5K t-shirt and medal. Those people will run 3.1 miles on Sunday, Sept. 10 from wherever they are.
