The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder J.D. Martinez on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, which means he won't be ready in time for Opening Day or the team's home opener.
Martinez suffered a sprained right foot on March 18 while making a shoestring catch and hasn't returned to the lineup since.
He told reporters shortly after the injury that he hoped to be ready for Opening Day on Monday, April 3 against the Chicago White Sox, but that is no longer the case.
The team opens the season on Monday before the home opener against the Boston Red Sox on Friday, April 7.
Martinez would not be able to be activated from the DL until Sunday, April 9.
