Detroit Tigers bench coach Gene Lamont will manage the team while Brad Ausmus deals with a family matter over the next few days.
Tigers officials confirm Ausmus learned early Wednesday that his mother, Linda Susan, had passed away.
The team says they have yet to determine when Ausmus will return.
The Tigers close out their series against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday afternoon at Comerica Park before traveling to Oakland for a three-game series beginning Friday.
