Detroit Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland announced on Friday that defenseman Danny DeKeyser will be out 3-4 weeks with a foot injury.
Holland told reporters DeKeyser has a sprained ligament in his left foot.
The defenseman suffered the injury in the third period of Wednesday night's game against against the Pittsburgh Penguin.
He was examined by doctors at the arena, but underwent further evaluation when the team arrived back in Detroit Thursday morning.
DeKeyser, 25, played in 80 games for the Red Wings last season. He scored two goals with 29 assists, and was a +11. He was expected to be partnered with Mike Green on the team's second defensive line.
