The Detroit Red Wings are celebrating the birthday of a legend Monday night at Joe Louis Arena.
Gordie Howe turns 88 on Thursday and the team is celebrating with a cake and the singing of Happy Birthday during the first intermission.
It was just over a year ago that Howe's health took a turn for the worse after suffering a stroke in October 2014. His family had even prepared a eulogy because they weren't sure if Howe was going to make it.
Lately, his health has improved, so much so that he will be at Joe Louis on Monday night for the celebrations.
