The longest active postseason streak in the four professional North American sports leagues is over.

The Red Wings have officially been eliminated from the playoffs, ending their 25-year stretch.

After their 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday night, the Bruins and Maple Leafs won, which knocked the Red Wings out of the playoff race.

Detroit's final season at Joe Louis Arena will end without a postseason series. It's a reality that has been developing all season, but became black and white on Tuesday.

The last Red Wings game at the Joe will be on Sunday, April 9 against the Devils.
