BUFFALO, N.Y. (WXYZ) -- The Red Wings placed forward Joakim Andersson on waivers Friday in a move to create some roster flexibility.
Teams have until Noon on Saturday to claim Andersson. Jeff Blashill told reporters Friday that if Andersson is not claimed, he will remain with the Red Wings instead of being sent to Grand Rapids. Blashill explained that the move allows Detroit to call up a Griffins player if necessary, and that it is simply a salary cap-related transaction.
In 25 games with the Red Wings this season, Andersson has a goal and two assists.
