Yzerman, Shanahan score in Red Wings alumni loss

DENVER, Colo. (WXYZ) -- After being held scoreless at Comerica Park in 2013, Steve Yzerman finally got to light the lamp in an outdoor alumni game.

Yzerman and Shanahan scored the only goals for the Red Wings alumni squad, who lost 5-2 to the Avalanche alumni Friday night at Coors Field.

Valeri Kamensky opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game. Four minutes after Yzerman's goal tied the game, Joe Sakic scored to put Colorado back in front.

Milan Hejduk, Stephane Yelle, and Ray Bourque also scored for the Avalanche.

Despite the teams' heated history, Friday's game did not feature any fisticuffs. Both teams were cordial in the postgame handshake line, including former adversaries Darren McCarty and Claude Lemieux sharing a brief hug.

The present-day Red Wings and Avalanche will meet Saturday night on the outdoor rink.
