Michigan No. 2 seed in D1 Softball Tourney

It has been reported that the Michigan Wolverines will be the No. 2 seed for the 2016 D1 Softball championship.

The Wolverines, under Carol Hutchins, are 46-5 and ranked at No. 2 in the USA Today/NFCA coaches' poll.

They just lost to No. 23 ranked Minnesota this weekend for the Big Ten Softball title in ten innings, by a score of 4-3.

Junior, Megan Betsa was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year for 2016. Senior and second baseman Sierra Romero was named Big Ten Player of the Year, and Coach Hutchins claimed her 16th Big Ten Coach of the Year award. Hutchins became the winningest coach in NCAA softball history this April 2.

Betsa posted a 13-2 record and 135 strikeouts. Romero batted .500 and had a 1.050 slugging percentage along with a .616 on-base percentage.

The Wolverines will face Valparaiso (18-32) on Friday.
