Michigan State has granted football player Jermaine Edmondson his release from scholarship.

Edmonson is the 22-year-old who claims Draymond Green punched him in the jaw.

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio released the following statement on Wednesday night:

“In discussions with Jermaine Edmondson following spring practice and in the weeks thereafter, it became clear that Jermaine wanted to play a larger role on the team. After consulting with him in the summer, he felt it was in his best interest to finish his playing career elsewhere. We have granted his immediate release to transfer to another institution to have that opportunity.”

Edmondson claimed Green punched him at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, despite East Lansing officers patrolling the area saying they saw and/or heard a loud slap.

The senior defensive back intends to transfer, after not participating in the spring game.

Edmondson reportedly hired attorney Corey Minor Smith from Canton, Ohio to represent him after the incident that "forever altered" his life.
