Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm is expected to be out 2-4 weeks after suffering a separated shoulder in training camp on Friday.
According to Detroit Free Press beat writer Helene St. James, General Manager Ken Holland said Helm suffered a grade 1 slight separated shoulder. He is also under concussion protocol for the next 4-7 days.
This comes after Helm collided with prospect Jerome Verrier Friday in Traverse City. Verrier suffered a broken leg.
Verrier, 2-1, collided with Helm during a drill in the first 10 minutes of camp.
"I just heard it," forward Tomas Tatar said. "I turned, and two guys are on the ice. For sure, you don't want to see this happen on the first drill of camp."
Tatar said they hit each when they weren't looking. Verrier was carted off on a stretcher, while Helm was able to leave the ice under his own power, but didn't return to practice.
