Red Wings, Maple Leafs alumni to face off in NHL Centennial Classic weekend game

On Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs revealed details regarding the team's Centennial Anniversary, including some information regarding the NHL Centennial Classic matchup against the Detroit Red Wings on Jan. 1, 2017.

 

As part of the NHL Centennial Classic, both the Red Wings and Maple Leafs alumni will face off at a game during the weekend. It's the first time the alumni team's have met since Dec. 31, 2013 during Winter Classic festivities at Comerica Park.

In that game, as well as an alumni game this year with the Colorado Avalanche, Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, Kris Draper, Darren McCarty and many more participated.

According to the Maple Leafs, there will also be a number of activities to celebrate the anniversary during NHL Centennial Week, which includes a New Year's Eve party and public skates on the ice at BMO Field.

The team will also wear special uniforms for both the alumni game and Centennial Classic.

Expect more details to be announced in the coming months.
