Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton has been added to the American League All-Star team, the Tigers announced Friday.
This is Upton's fourth appearance in the MLB All-Star game, with his last coming in 2015. It is his first appearance for the AL.
“It’s an honor to be selected as an All-Star for the first time as a Tiger,” Upton said in a release. “I can’t wait to get to South Florida to enjoy the festivities with Michael (Fulmer) and hopefully bring home a W for the American League."
He joins starting pitcher Michael Fulmer who was selected to the team last week. Fulmer will not be on the active All-Star Game roster because he pitches Sunday.
The game takes place Tuesday, July 11 in Miami.
