DETROIT (WXYZ) -- Western Michigan may be the heavy favorites to win the MAC Championship, but there were a few other teams at MAC Media Day at Ford Field who feel they have what it takes to contend.
Central Michigan could be one of WMU's biggest threats. Western's head coach PJ Fleck says Central Michigan head coach John Bonamego is 'one of the classiest coaches in college football' and that playing the Chippewas is always a battle.
CMU has eight starters returning on defense as well as NFL-caliber quarterback Cooper Rush. They also have some freshman that will likely be able to contribute this season. "I'm really excited about this group," said Bonamego.
Of course Western has its own QB threat in Zach Terrell. Terrell -- along with returning wide receiver Corey Davis -- makes the Broncos offense tough to stop.
Even with these standout individuals, Fleck says the culture is what brings them success.
"It's a culture. Whether people like it, don't like it, talk about it bad, talk about it positive, that's not our concern. It's our culture, and culture trumps skill every time," said Fleck.
